Shanghai market back from holiday with gains

Mainland Chinese stocks rose Wednesday as they reopened after an extended weekend, with traders welcoming news that troubled property developer Evergrande had agreed a plan to repay interest on its domestic bond.

The Shanghai Composite added 0.40 percent to 3,628, though the Shenzhen Composite Index on China’s second exchange dipped 0.25 percent to 2,440.

Hong Kong was closed for a holiday. (AFP)
